Global Engagement Office (GEO), Faculty of Political Science (FISIPOL), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) invites you to join the Public Lecture “Intercultural competence and competencies: What You Need in Order to be Successful When Working Abroad” presented by Prof. Peter Franklin from Hochschule Konstanz University of Applied Sciences, Germany.
Drawing on research insights from various disciplines, this lecture will describe the knowledge, skills and qualities people working interculturally ideally require in order to handle the complexity of working abroad. With the help of film sequences and insights from the presenter’s many years of research, training and consultancy experience, the lecture will illustrate some of the constituent components of intercultural competence and briefly present attempts to reduce its complexity in the form of competence frameworks. In passing it will discuss the extent to which intercultural competence is susceptible to overt development actions in education, training and coaching. Supported by online-tools, the session will consist of a mixture of presentation and discussion.
